OVERVIEW:

Focusing on the Food and Agriculture Center for Science Education’s growing phenomena bank, this webinar explores the integration of sustainability sciences within beef production through the lens of NGSS design. Designed to make connections between agriculture, science education, and student and teacher life experiences, this session aims to demonstrate the high relevance and authenticity of agriculture as a context for learning science. By leveraging phenomena found in beef production, educators will explore strategies to facilitate student sensemaking and critical thinking. Demonstrating that food and agriculture touch everyone’s lives, this webinar provides a foundation from which to build, offering opportunities to enhance students' skills and strategies for a more resilient future.

OUTCOMES:

  • Educators will acquire practical strategies to design and integrate NGSS-aligned lessons that cultivate student sensemaking.
  • Participants will learn how to effectively incorporate phenomena-based instruction to engage students in scientific inquiry and critical thinking within the context of agricultural science.
  • Attendees will leave equipped with a toolkit of resources to support the implementation of NGSS-aligned lessons.
